Title: Leaf Heat Tolerances in Native Plants in Southern California

Brief Project Description: This project will examine leaf heat tolerances of plant species that are widely distributed across Southern California from the coast inland to areas where sage scrub transitions into desert. This CURE will provide students with insights on which plant species may be most vulnerable to climate modifications, drought and extreme heat events. This CURE was developed for inclusion in courses across multiple levels including upper division plant biology/physiology/ecology courses as well as introductory courses. Currently interested faculty participants will instruct courses that span intro level courses at both 4-year PUIs and Community Colleges.
