Title: Using stable isotopes to compare water use efficiencies in Southern California systems
Contact: Darren Sandquist, California State University, Fullerton: dsandquist@fullerton.edu
Project Status: Planning scheduled for the Fall 2023 semester with implementation in the spring 2024 semester.
Brief Project Description: This CURE will use stable carbon isotopes to explore plant water use efficiencies (ratio of CO2 assimilated in photosynthesis relative to the amount of water lost through transpiration) in plants of various southern California communities. The exact question that will be examined during the CURE will be defined by participants in fall 2023. CURE leaders from this CURE and the 2022-23 CURE project and/or the 2023-24 MSRP project may bring their data together as the questions they plan to address complement each other’s projects.
